What the Army Run Time Calculator helps you understand

Repeat measurements under similar conditions for a more useful trend.

The Army Run Time Calculator converts your 2-mile run time into ACFT points and provides detailed pacing analysis. The two-mile run is the final ACFT event and tests aerobic endurance under accumulated fatigue from the five preceding events. Effective pacing is critical — starting too fast causes lactic acid buildup and significant pace decay in the second mile, while starting too conservatively leaves points on the table. This calculator breaks your target time into per-mile, per-half-mile, and per-quarter-mile splits, giving you concrete pacing targets to hit during the run. It also estimates your VO2max based on your run time, providing an additional metric for tracking aerobic fitness development.

Use current official event guidance when preparing for an assessed score.

Check the calculator labels before entering a value.
What is the best pacing strategy for the 2-mile run?+

Aim for even splits or a slight negative split (second mile 5-10 seconds faster than the first). Starting at your target pace and holding steady is more effective than sprinting and fading.

How does running after five events affect my time?+

Most soldiers run 30-60 seconds slower on the 2MR after completing the other five ACFT events compared to running fresh. Account for this in your training by occasionally practicing runs after strength and conditioning work.

How quickly can I improve my run time?+

With consistent training 3-4 times per week, most soldiers can improve 30-60 seconds on their 2-mile time in 6-8 weeks. Untrained runners may see improvements of 1-2 minutes in the same period.

What VO2max level corresponds to a passing run?+

A 21:00 2-mile run (rough passing threshold) corresponds to a VO2max of approximately 35-38 ml/kg/min. A 14:00 run (near maximum score) corresponds to approximately 55-58 ml/kg/min.
