What the Army Height and Weight Calculator helps you understand

Repeat measurements under similar conditions for a more useful trend.

The Army Height and Weight Calculator implements the screening weight tables from AR 600-9, which are the first checkpoint in the Army Body Composition Program. Every soldier is weighed during physical fitness assessments and compared against the maximum screening weight for their height, age group, and sex. Soldiers who exceed this weight proceed to the tape test. Conversely, soldiers who fall below the minimum weight may be referred for medical evaluation. This tool covers both maximum and minimum screening weights across all heights from 58 to 80 inches.

Current Army policy and an authorized assessment control official status.

Check the calculator labels before entering a value.
What happens if I exceed the screening weight?+

Exceeding the screening weight does not mean you fail. It triggers a tape test (body fat assessment). Many soldiers exceed the weight table but pass the tape test due to carrying significant lean muscle mass.

Are the weight limits the same for all ages?+

No, maximum screening weights increase slightly with age. For example, a 70-inch male is allowed 190 lbs at ages 17-20, 192 lbs at 21-27, 195 lbs at 28-39, and 197 lbs at 40+.

How is height measured for the screening?+

Height is measured without shoes on a flat surface, standing with heels together. Height is recorded to the nearest half inch and determines which row of the weight table applies.

When are soldiers weighed?+

Soldiers are typically screened at least semi-annually, during the APFT, and upon reporting to a new duty station. Commanders may direct additional weigh-ins as needed.
