What the Army Weight Calculator helps you understand

Repeat measurements under similar conditions for a more useful trend.

The Army Weight Calculator provides a quick weight-focused view of the AR 600-9 standards. Unlike calculators that combine weight screening with body fat estimation, this tool concentrates solely on the weight tables, making it ideal for soldiers who want a fast answer about their screening status. It displays the complete weight range for your height across all four age brackets simultaneously, so you can see how close you are to the limits and how the allowance changes as you age. The tool also highlights the minimum weight standard, which is often overlooked.

Current Army policy and an authorized assessment control official status.

Army Weight Calculator FAQs

Use the Army Weight Calculator FAQ guide

Check the calculator labels before entering a value.
Are the weight limits based on BMI?+

No, the screening weights in AR 600-9 are not directly derived from BMI. They were developed from military population data and are specific to Army standards, roughly corresponding to a BMI range of 25-27.5 depending on age group.

Can I trust my home scale?+

Home scales can track trends but may differ from official scales. Weigh yourself at the same time of day, in similar clothing, and on the same scale for consistent tracking.

What clothing is worn during official weigh-in?+

AR 600-9 specifies the Army Physical Fitness Uniform (APFU) or shorts and T-shirt. Shoes are removed. The scale is calibrated and weight recorded to the nearest pound.

Is the minimum weight standard ever waived?+

The minimum weight standard itself is not waived, but soldiers below it are referred for medical evaluation rather than administrative action. If a provider determines the soldier is healthy, no further action is required.
