What the Army Height Weight Standards Calculator helps you understand

Repeat measurements under similar conditions for a more useful trend.

This calculator serves as a comprehensive reference for the complete AR 600-9 height-weight standards tables. It covers every height from 58 to 80 inches, all four age brackets, and both genders. The current tables account for the finding that some weight increase with age is normal — hence the gradual increase in maximum weights for older age brackets. For example, a 65-inch female has a maximum of 136 lbs at ages 17-20 but 145 lbs at ages 40+. This 9-lb difference acknowledges normal physiological changes while maintaining a fitness-focused standard.

Check the calculator labels before entering a value.
Why do maximum weights increase with age?+

Medical research shows some weight gain with aging is normal and does not indicate decreased fitness. The Army adjusts maximum weights slightly upward for older groups to account for natural physiological changes.

What height range do Army standards cover?+

AR 600-9 tables cover heights from 58 inches (4'10") to 80 inches (6'8"). Soldiers outside this range are evaluated on a case-by-case basis with medical guidance.

How often are the tables updated?+

Updates occur when the Army determines changes are needed based on medical research. Recent significant changes include the WHtR method adoption in Army Directive 2026-13.

Are standards different for initial entry soldiers?+

MEPS uses its own screening tables for initial entry, which may differ slightly from AR 600-9 retention standards. Once in the Army, AR 600-9 standards apply.
