What the Army APFT Calculator helps you understand

Repeat measurements under similar conditions for a more useful trend.

The Army APFT Calculator preserves the scoring tables from the Army Physical Fitness Test, which was the Army's record fitness test from 1980 until it was replaced by the ACFT. The APFT consisted of three events: push-ups (2 minutes), sit-ups (2 minutes), and a 2-mile run. Each event was scored from 0 to 100 points using age- and gender-specific tables. A minimum of 60 points per event was required to pass. Although the APFT is no longer the record test, many soldiers still use it for personal fitness tracking, and the scoring tables remain a familiar benchmark. Some units continue to administer diagnostic APFTs alongside the ACFT for comparative purposes.

Check the calculator labels before entering a value.
Is the APFT still used by the Army?+

The APFT is no longer the Army's record fitness test — the ACFT replaced it. However, some units use the APFT for diagnostic purposes or personal fitness tracking. APFT scores no longer count for promotions or evaluations.

What was the maximum APFT score?+

The maximum APFT score was 300 points (100 per event). Soldiers who scored 300 demonstrated exceptional performance in push-ups, sit-ups, and the 2-mile run for their age and gender.

How did APFT scoring differ by age?+

The APFT had extensive age-adjusted scoring tables. Older soldiers needed fewer push-ups and sit-ups and could run slower to earn the same point values as younger soldiers, reflecting age-related fitness norms.

Why was the APFT replaced?+

The APFT was replaced because it tested only three fitness components and did not adequately predict performance in combat-related physical tasks. The ACFT tests six domains for a more complete assessment of military physical readiness.
